Aretha Franklin, the famous soul singer, died on August 16, 2018, after an eight-year struggle with pancreatic cancer.

The Queen of Soul died surrounded by her loved ones in Detroit. According to reports, her family had requested “prayers and privacy” before her death.

Her family stated her passing, which read:

“Franklin’s official cause of death was advanced neuroendocrine pancreatic cancer, which Franklin’s doctor, Dr Philip Phillips of Karmanos Cancer Institute, verified.

“We are unable to find the suitable words to communicate the pain in our hearts in one of the darkest moments of our lives. Our family’s matriarch and rock have passed away.

“The extraordinary outpouring of love and support we’ve gotten from close friends, supporters, and fans all across the world has left us speechless. Thank you so much for your kindness and prayers.

“We’ve sensed your admiration for Aretha, and it gives us comfort to know that her memory will go on. During this terrible time, we ask that you respect our privacy while we grieve.”

Aretha Franklin’s funeral was held on August 31, 2018.

For two days, her remains were laid in state at the Charles H. Wright Museum of African American History in Detroit, allowing supporters to say their final goodbyes.
Aretha died at the age of 76.
