Carlos Simeone, the father of Atletico Madrid’s coach, Diego Simeone, passed away at the age of 80, on March 25, 2022, in Buenos Aires, Argentina.

“Today is a sad day for our red and white family. Atletico Madrid is in mourning for the death of Carlos Simeone, father of our coach, Diego Pablo Simeone, and grandfather of Giuliano Simeone, Atletico Madrid B striker”, the Madrid club confirmed in a statement shared on its official website as well as their official social media accounts.

The club’s flag located at the Wanda Metropolitano stadium in Madrid flies at half-staff in tribute to the father of the Argentine football manager.

“Our president, CEO, the rest of the members of the Board of Directors, and all the employees want to convey our most sincere condolences and we join in the pain of the family. Rest in peace,” added the team.
Diego Simeone is an Argentine professional football manager and ex-player who played as a midfielder; he has been the manager of Atlético Madrid since December 2011.
Simeone is considered a legendary figure in the history of Atlético Madrid due to his achievements as a player and manager with them.
Simeone’s sons Giovanni, Gianluca, and Giuliano are professional footballers, currently playing for Hellas Verona, CD Ibiza, and Atlético Madrid B respectively.
He additionally has two daughters, Francesca and Valentina, with model Carla Pereyra. Simeone and Pereyra got married in secret in June 2019.
