Ketanji Brown Jackson is a current nominee for the Supreme Court, awaiting confirmation in the Senate.

Ketanji Jackson attended Harvard University for college and law school, where she served as an editor on the Harvard Law Review.

Ketanji Jackson began her legal career with three clerkships, including one with U.S. Supreme Court Associate Justice Stephen Breyer.

Prior to her elevation to an appellate court, from 2013 to 2021, she served as a district judge for the United States District Court for the District of Columbia.

Ketanji Jackson was also vice chair of the United States Sentencing Commission from 2010 to 2014. Since 2016, she has been a member of the Harvard Board of Overseers.

If confirmed, Ketanji Jackson would be the first black woman to sit on the Supreme Court.

The Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Incorporated on February 25, 2022, shared a statement urging the US senate to confirm the nomination of Brown Jackson.

The statement said: “As one of the nation’s pre-eminent service-based sororities. Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Incorporated proudly supports president Joe Biden’s nomination of Ketanji Brown Jackson to serve as the first black woman associate justice on the United States Supreme Court.”

It lauds her “extraordinary qualifications, character, experience, integrity and commitment”. The statement also stresses the quality of Brown Jackson’s qualifications.

“As a two-time Harvard University graduate, Judge Jackson is a seasoned and skilled jurist with a wide range of judicial experience,” the statement added.

However, it’s been widely reported that Judge Jackson is not part of any sorority society.

This is despite the fact that Sorority sisters were among those who attended her confirmation hearing.

More homework could have been done for this one. Alpha Kappa Alpha also released a statement congratulating Judge Jackson on her nomination on February 25. Zeta Phi Beta and Sigma Gamma Rho did likewise in congratulating Judge Jackson. Members of all four black sororities in the Divine Nine supported her confirmation hearings as well. The point being made in stating that it has been “widely reported that Judge Jackson is not part of any sorority society” is a bit unclear. It would have been helpful had the research been done to find the answer. Thanks.
