The election of Peter Malinauskas as the next Premier of South Australia is almost certain, with the ABC’s election analyst predicting a Labor victory.

Antony Green declared Steven Marshall’s government defeated after a third of polling booths reported results.

The Liberal Party has seen swings across the state, including in the key battleground of Elder, where Labor candidate Nadia Clancy saw a more than 10% swing in her favor.

Mr Green predicted a 7.8% swing across the city, but cautioned that this was based on early voting. In the state’s lower house, either party needs 24 seats to form a majority government.

Mr Marshall is also looking likely to be in strife in his own seat of Dunstan, facing a 9.9 per cent swing against him.

“The Premier has got a bit of a fight on his hands,” Mr Green said.
