Sir Lewis Carl Davidson Hamilton MBE HonFREng was born on January 7, 1985, in Stevenage, United Kingdom to parents Carmen Larbalestier and Anthony Hamilton. He is of mixed race as his father, Anthony Hamilton, is of Grenadian descent and his mother, Carmen Larbalestier, is White British.

Lewis Hamilton’s parents separated when he was two. He was raised by his mother alongside his two older half-sisters, Samantha and Nicola. When he was 12 years old, he began living with his father and stepmother Linda.

Lewis Hamilton also has a half-brother Nicolas, who is also a professional racing driver. He schooled at a voluntary aided Catholic secondary school, The John Henry Newman School in Stevenage.

Lewis Hamilton began karting in 1993 and joined the McLaren young driver programme in 1998. He made history as the youngest driver to win the British cadet karting championship at the age of ten.

Lewis Hamilton began his car racing career in the 2001 British Formula Renault Winter Series, where he ended as fifth in the standings. He has previously driven for McLaren from 2007 to 2012.  In Formula One, Hamilton has won a joint-record seven World Drivers’ Championship titles (tied with Michael Schumacher).
