William Denard Barton III was born on January 6, 1991, in Baltimore, Maryland, United States. He was born to his mother, Karen Bush and was raised alongside two siblings named Antonio Barton and Shareena.
Will Barton began his basketball career at Baltimore City College for two years, however, he transferred to National Christian Academy in Fort Washington, Maryland. He later enrolled at Baltimore’s Lake Clifton Eastern High School for his junior year.
Will Barton attended Brewster Academy as a senior from 2009 to 2010. He played college basketball for Memphis, where he won the Conference USA Player of the Year in 2012.
Will Barton decided to forgo his final two years of eligibility and declare for the 2012 NBA draft in March 2012. He was selected by the Portland Trail Blazers with the 40th overall pick.
