Why is Willie Cauley-Stein called Trill?

Willie Cauley-Stein had a good reason for legally changing his name to his mother’s.

Willie’s legal name was Willie Durmond Cauley Jr., but his father fell out of his life at a young age, so he always went by “Willie Cauley-Stein” to honor his mother, Marlene Stein, and her family, who raised him.

As for why he added “Trill” to his name, his mother told Scheller that it’s the “nickname his ‘boys’ call him.”
