Charlie Bayless Cause Of Death

Roscoe Bayless well-known as Charlie Bayless was a high school basketball coach. He was on the gym floor as a coach for 62-years.

Bayless coached two years JV, one year at Jonesboro High School, and 59 years at Happy Valley.

He retired at the age of 88.  During his time, he coached baseball, football, basketball, golf and track. He won many conferences, District, Regional, Sub-State, and produced state champions in several sports.

Bayless, a Military Police in World War II, started his head coaching career at Jonesboro High School but was best known for his 59 seasons at Happy Valley. A former player for the Warriors, Bayless was a guard on the 1941 team that finished state runner-up and the 1942 team that reached the final four.

He coached players like Shaquille O’Neal, Tennessee’s Alan Houston, and coached many young boys who became coaches. Coach Bayless is known from Memphis to Mountain City and has opened doors for many young men to be successful in their careers.

In September 2021, Bayless and his wife, Jane, were honored by the Carter County Commission. Commissioners read a proclamation that honored Bayless.

Bayless was also the subject of the book, “100 Years as a Warrior,” by Charles Peters.

According to sources, Charlie Bayless died on Monday, February 21, 2022, but the cause of death was not revealed.

He was 98-years-old at the time of his demise.
