Christopher Stalford, a Democratic Unionist Party member of the Northern Ireland assembly who died abruptly at the age of 39, has received tributes from both sides of the political divide in Northern Ireland.

The actual cause of death remains a mystery.
Jeffrey Donaldson, the DUP leader, said he spoke with Stalford on Friday night and described him as a friend and someone who was “born to be a public representative.”
“He cared deeply about Northern Ireland and wanted nothing but the best for his constituents.” “I had no idea how valuable that chat was going to be,” the MP added.

Stalford was elected to Belfast city council in 2005, at the age of 22, as the city’s youngest member, to represent the city’s Laganbank area.
In 2010, Staltford was elected as Belfast’s high sheriff, then in 2013, as deputy lord mayor.
Three years later, he was elected to the Northern Ireland assembly to represent Belfast South, and from January 2020 to January 2021, he served as the legislature’s principal deputy speaker.
Stalford is survived by Laura, his wife, and their four children.
