Black has worked with Wales, the British and Irish Lions, Newcastle United, and Sunderland, as well as serving on the Falcons’ coaching staff twice.

During his time with Newcastle United’s football squad, he worked under Kevin Keegan during the club’s great era in the 1990s, and others who worked with him have offered him warm tributes.

Former Magpies assistant manager Terry McDermott said: “I was devastated to learn that my best friend Blackie had died. Words can’t express what a great guy he was, and everyone who knew him will miss him greatly.”

Alan Shearer, a veteran at the club, responded to the news on Twitter: “This is terrible news. Blackie, rest in peace.”
