Eileen Gu, also known by her Chinese name Gu Ailing was born on September 3, 2003, in San Francisco, California, United States. She was born to a Chinese-American mother, Yan Gu and an American father.

Eileen Gu graduated early from secondary school. She was a January 2021 nominee for the U.S. Presidential Scholars Program from San Francisco University High School. She has been admitted to Stanford University and will commence studies after the 2022 Olympic Winter Games.

Eileen Gu made history as the youngest Olympic champion in freestyle skiing at the age of 18. This was after she won gold medals in big air and halfpipe, and a silver medal in slopestyle, at the 2022 Winter Olympics in Beijing.

Eileen Gu has competed for China since 2019 and had competed for the United States at the 2018–19 FIS Freestyle Ski World Cup.

Eileen Gu is the first freestyle skier to win three medals at a Winter Olympics. She became the first woman to land a forward double cork 1440 in 2021.
