Steve Williams is a New Zealander who has served as a caddie for several top professional golfers, most recently with Jason Day.

Williams is best known for having served as Tiger Woods’ caddie from 1999 to 2011. Woods was the top-ranked golfer in the world for much of Williams’ tenure as his caddie.

Caddies may earn salaries of $2,000 per week, or sometimes about $1,000 each week. Steve Williams, while caddying for Tiger Woods, earned $1.27 million in 2006.

A caddie for a professional golfer typically earns 5 percent to 10 percent of the players’ winnings, on top of any salary he’s paid.

The percentage of the player’s winnings paid to the caddie may depend on how well the golfer plays.

According to reports, the caddie’s standard cut at that 2006 was 10 percent if the player won a PGA Tour event, 8 percent if the player finished in second through 10th place and about 6 percent for any other finish.

As of 2007, the percentage was 10 percent for a victory, 7 percent for a top 10 finish other than a victory, and 5 percent if the golfer finished 11th or lower.
