Nomakula Kuli Roberts was born on December 16, 1972, in South Africa. She began her journalism career with Pace magazine. She was the editor of Drum Magazine, Fashion, and Beauty.

Kuli Roberts also worked as a columnist of Sunday World. She hosted the SABC2 reality television show What Not To Wear from 2004 to 2005. From 2008 to 2009, she co-hosted the SABC1 gossip show called The Real Goboza for the second and third seasons.

Kuli Roberts played a fictional version of herself in the Mzansi Magic TV series iNkaba from 2012 to 2013. She has also made appearances as Mildred Sefatsa in Seasons 4 and 5 of the soapie The Queen (2020-2021) as well as Tina in the Netflix movie Angeliena (2021).

Kuli Roberts has a sister, Hlubi Mboya, who is best recognized for her role as HIV-positive Nandipha on the SABC3 soap opera, Isidingo. Kuli Roberts published the novel Siren in 2019.
