Leslie Mark Shapiro was born in Morton Grove, Illinois, the United States. His father, Jordan Shapiro, a Navy veteran He was graduated in Mass Communication from Arizona State University.

Les Shapiro played baseball at New Trier High School. He started his career as a news writer/producer for KPNX-TV in Phoenix, Arizona then worked as a sports anchor for WEEK-TV in Peoria, Illinois, before coming to Denver.
He later obtained the post of sports anchor on the Denver CBS affiliate, CBS4, and then the Fox TV affiliate, both of which featured him as the voice of the Denver Broncos. He
