Mugler’s death was verified by his official Instagram page on Sunday night. His agency stated the designer’s death was due to ‘natural causes,’ adding that he was set to reveal new collaborations this week.

Mugler, who founded his namesake fashion label in the 1970s, has endured a number of terrible injuries in recent years, including a car accident and a gym accident, all of which necessitated plastic surgery and rendered him nearly unrecognizable.

Thierry Mugler was born on December 21, 1948, in Strasbourg, France. He studied and performed ballet before focusing on his fashion designs.
