Robert George Goalby was an American professional golfer. He won the Masters Tournament in 1968 after Roberto De Vicenzo notably made an error on his scorecard.

Goalby was born on March 14, 1929, in Belleville, Illinois where he was raised, and lived for much of his life. He was the son of a coal miner. Bob Goalby’s nephew is Jay Haas, a 9-time PGA Tour winner
Golby was an All-State quarterback during his senior year of Belleville West High School and attended the University of Illinois, on a football scholarship only to lose his eligibility due to playing several baseball games for Southern Illinois University.
Golby then quit college altogether and served in the United States military during the Korean War.
Goalby died in Belleville on January 20, 2022, at the age of 92.
