The great Martin Luther King led the American Civil Rights Movement from 1955 to 1968. Born in Atlanta Georgia, United States on January 15, 1929, martin Luther King made history by advocating the use of a non-violent approach in the fight against racial discrimination.

His first contact with prominence was during a boycott held by African Americans in Montgomery, Alabama in 1955.

Sadly, on April 4, 1968, Dr Martin Luther King was assassinated in Tennesse, United States. Immediately after his death, the American government received calls for a national holiday in honor of his memory.

The legislation for a federal holiday was introduced in Congress in 1968, the legislation for making the third Monday in January a federal holiday was passed, and on January 20, 1986, the first Martin Luther King holiday was observed.

Martin Luther King Day is usually celebrated with marches, parades, and speeches by politicians and civil rights leaders.
