Peter Bogdanovich ComSE was born on July 30, 1939, in Kingston, New York, United States as the son of Herma, an Austrian painter and Borislav Bogdanovich, a Serbian pianist. His mother was Jewish while his father was an Orthodox Christian.

Peter Bogdanovich graduated from New York City’s Collegiate School in 1957 and studied acting at the Stella Adler Conservatory. He began as a film journalist until he got hired to work on Roger Corman’s The Wild Angels (1966).

Peter Bogdanovich later directed his own film Targets (1968) which was labelled a critical success. He skyrocketed to wider popularity for his critically acclaimed drama The Last Picture Show (1971).

Peter Bogdanovich has been described as one of the “New Hollywood” directors and had earned eight Oscar nominations including Best Director and Best Adapted Screenplay for the drama The Last Picture Show (1971).
