Polly Platt was born Mary Marr “Polly” Platt was born on January 29, 1939, in Fort Sheridan, Illinois, United States. Her father, John was a colonel in the Judge Advocate General’s Corps of the United States Army, while her mother, Vivian worked in advertising.

Polly Platt had attended the Carnegie Institute of Technology, now known as Carnegie Mellon University. She was the first female art director accepted into Hollywood’s Art Director’s Guild.

Polly Platt was also a mentor as well as an uncredited collaborator and networker. She was awarded the Women in Film Crystal Award in 1994.
