Six of her friends died, leaving Aoife fighting for her life while suffering life-altering injuries.

She sustained catastrophic brain damage, organ lacerations, lost all of her teeth and had to have open-heart surgery as a result of the 40-foot fall.

Aoife and her friends were celebrating her 21st birthday when a fourth-floor balcony at the Library Gardens apartment block gave way.

The students were thrown 40 feet to the ground below after the wooden support timbers beneath the balcony deteriorated.

At the time of the tragedy, Aoife was a pharmacology student at University College Dublin. In 2016, Aoife received a BSc in Pharmacology.
