Anderson Hays Cooper was born on June 3, 1967, in New York, New York, the United States as the younger son of author, screenwriter, and actor Wyatt Emory Cooper and artist, fashion designer, writer, and heiress Gloria Vanderbilt.

Anderson Cooper’s father, Wyatt died January 5, 1978, at the age of 50. He lost his older brother, Carter Vanderbilt Cooper when he was 21 years old. Carter had committed suicide on July 22, 1988, at age 23.

Anderson Cooper attended the Dalton School, a private day school in the Upper East Side neighbourhood of Manhattan, graduating a semester early at the age of 17. He later attended Yale University.

Anderson Cooper was inducted into the Manuscript Society, majoring in political science and graduating with a Bachelor of Arts in 1989.

Anderson Cooper joined CNN in 2001 and was given his own show, Anderson Cooper 360°, in 2003. His popularity skyrocketed with his coverage of Hurricane Katrina.

Anderson Cooper became the first openly LGBT person to moderate a presidential debate in 2016.  He also serves as a correspondent for 60 Minutes on CBS News.

Anderson Cooper’s father, Wyatt Emory Cooper was an author, screenwriter, and actor while his mother Gloria Vanderbilt was an artist, author, fashion designer, writer, socialite and heiress.

Wyatt Emory Cooper and Gloria Vanderbilt tied the knot on December 24, 1963, with Wyatt becoming Gloria’s fourth husband.

Wyatt Emory Cooper died in Manhattan, New York City on January 5, 1978, at age of 50, during open-heart surgery, following a heart attack he experienced during the previous December.

Gloria Vanderbilt died at her home in Manhattan on June 17, 2019, at the age of 95 of stomach cancer. She is buried next to her son Carter and late husband Wyatt in the Cooper plot in the Vanderbilt Family Cemetery next to Moravian Cemetery on Staten Island, New York.
