Why did Gemma Chan split with Jack Whitehall?

English actress and Crazy Rich Asians star Gemma Chan dated English comedian Jack Whitehall for six years. In 2017, the couple said goodbye to their love relationship.

The 33-year old English comedian accepted responsibility for the split to his mother Hilary on the Netflix show Travels With My Father, saying that he “messed up” his chances of marrying Chan.

Nobody needs to explain that every relationship breakup is attributed to some cause, and in this case in point, there are two tales to it.

One tale says that Chan split with Whitehall over unreconciliable stress their different filming schedules brought to their relationship. In a standup comedy in 2018, Whitehall unceremoniously revealed details about the relationship and the split that sparked controversy.

Whitehall said: “I’ve had a lot of changes in my life recently. I’m single now. I was in a relationship, it broke down, it was not gonna work, it was a long-distance relationship, not geographically, just in terms of our expectations.

“She wanted kids now whereas I wanted to escape. I’m not good with kids.”

Chan is now in a relationship with English actor Dominic Cooper. Whitehall is also dating model Roxy Horner. Despite the split, it is known that Chan and Whitehall remain good friends.
