Augusta Ada King was born on December 10, 1815, in London, United Kingdom and was the only child of poet Lord Byron and mathematician Lady Byron. His father separated from his wife a month after Ada was born and left England forever.
Ada Lovelace’s father, Byron died in Greece when she was eight years old. She tied the knot to William King-Noel, 1st Earl of Lovelace on 8 July 1835, becoming Lady King. They had three children: Byron (born 1836); Anne Isabella (called Annabella, born 1837); and Ralph Gordon (born 1839).
Ada Lovelace’s legacy as a role model for girls and young women considering careers in technology is remembered on Ada Lovelace Day on Tuesday 12 October. The Ada Lovelace Day (ALD) is an international celebration of the achievements of women in science, technology, engineering and maths (STEM).

William King-Noel, 1st Earl of Lovelace was an English nobleman and scientist. He was born on February 21, 1805, in London, United Kingdom.
William King-Noel was the eldest son of Peter King, 7th Baron King, and his wife, Lady Hester Fortescue. His mother was the granddaughter of George Grenville.
William King-Noel was known as the Hon. William King until 1833 as well as the Lord King from 1833 to 1838. He was raised alongside his younger brother and politician, the Hon. Peter John Locke King.
William King-Noel was educated at Eton and Trinity. He later became secretary to Lord Nugent and succeeded in the barony in 1833 when his father died. He was made Viscount Ockham as well as Earl of Lovelace in 1838 through his wife Ada.
William King-Noel was also appointed Lord-Lieutenant of Surrey in 1840 and was later appointed Colonel of the 2nd Royal Surrey Militia on 14 August 1852 until 11 April 1870, when he was appointed Honorary Colonel of the regiment.
William King-Noel died in December 1893 at the age of 88. He was succeeded in the earldom by his second but eldest surviving son, Ralph.
