The Army Chief serves as the principal advisor to the Minister of Defence on military-related matters, a key military advisor to the supreme commander of the Indian Army, the President. After the 7th Pay Commission, the Indian Army Chief, on a level 18 pay scale on the salary chart, receives a ₹250,000-monthly salary, which is equivalent to US$3,300 a month.
