Anna Johnson Julian was an African-American academician who was the first woman of her ethnicity to be awarded a Ph.D. in sociology by the University of Pennsylvania in 1937. She was also a civic activist and the fourth national president of the historically black sorority Delta Sigma Theta.

Anna was born on November 24, 1903, and died in an Oak Park hospital on July 3, 1994. She was 90 at the time of her death.

She was married to chemist Percy Julian, with who she raised their children Faith Julian, their son Percy Julian, Jr., and their nephew Leon R. Ellis.

Anna received several honorary awards in her lifetime from various institutions and organizations for her dedication to civic, educational, and cultural undertakings. Beyond death, her success as a remarkable woman has not been left unnoticed.
