Sergio Busquets Burgos was born on July 16, 1988, in Sabadell, Spain. His father, Carles, was also a footballer and had played as a goalkeeper for Barcelona during the 1990s.
Sergio Busquets made his senior international debut for Spain in April 2009. He has since made over 130 appearances for the national side and aided Spain in winning the 2010 World Cup and Euro 2012 tournaments.

Sergio Busquets collided with Stefan Savic when challenging for a header on the half-hour mark in their 0-0 draw with Atletico Madrid and suffered a head injury as a consequence.
The head injury left the Spain international bleeding and he was transferred to hospital. He has a facial contusion with an upper maxilla fracture and was replaced in the Barcelona side by Ilaix Moriba after he was unable to continue the game.
