Why was Malcolm X assassinated?
Aside from tensions between Malcolm and Nation of Islam leader Elijah Muhammad over the political direction of the separatist group, most of Malcolm’s public declarations were deemed controversial and tainting to the Nation of Islam.
Eventually, Malcolm left the Nation of Islam.
The animosity that brewed between Malcolm and the Nation was followed by death threats and public attacks.

Following his assassination, Malcolm X was immortalized as a legend among Black young people due to the massive distribution of The Autobiography of Malcolm X (1965), which chronicled his life story.
