Doc Rivers, officially known as Glenn Anton Rivers, is an American professional basketball coach who plies his trade in the National Basketball Association for the Philadelphia 76ers. Prior to becoming a coach, Doc Rivers played for the Atlanta Hawks, Los Angeles Clippers, New York Knicks, and the San Antonio Spurs.

Doc Rivers commenced his career in basketball during his college days at Marquette University. Doc was drafted by the Atlanta Hawks in 1983 and after five years he was named in the 1988 NBA All-Star. Doc Rivers also clinched the McDonald’s All-American and Mr Basketball USA both in 1980.

Why do they call him Doc Rivers?
Glenn Anton Rivers was given the “Doc” during the days when he played college basketball at Marquette University. The college assistant coach, Rick Majerus, nicknamed him “Doc” because Rivers had worn a “Dr. J” T-shirt at a summer basketball camp.
