Harold Koh is an American lawyer and legal scholar who served as the legal advisor of the Department of State in the Obama administration. He was born on December 8, 1954, in Massachusetts, US.

Koh graduated in 1971 from the Hopkins School in New Haven; graduated summa cum laude and Phi Beta Kappa from Harvard in 1975 with a degree in Government, before studying at Oxford University as a Marshal Scholar.14 He graduated cum laude from Harvard Law School in 1980.
Koh was elected to the American Law Institute in 1992 and was elected to the Ali Council when he worked for the Obama administration, but was re-elected to Council when he ended his tenure with the State Department and returned to Yale.
