The Ashes series, which will take place between England and Australia in 2021–22, will be a series of Test cricket matches for The Ashes.

Between December 8, 2021, and January 18, 2022, the series will be held at five different venues around Australia.

Why is it called Ashes?

After England lost to Australia for the first time on home ground at The Oval on August 29, 1882, the term “Ashes” was coined.

The Sporting Times published a parody obituary of English cricket the next day, concluding, “The body will be cremated and the ashes will be transferred to Australia.”
