Will Universal Credit contact me by phone?
When you apply for Universal Credit, the DWP may contact you through the phone using a withheld, 0800, or private number. If they want to phone you, they will leave a message on your online account.
During the conversation, the DWP will identify themselves by giving your postcode and a portion of your Universal Credit account number. If these items aren’t mentioned, ask for them and hang up if you don’t get them – it might be a scam call.
