Lee ‘Scratch’ Perry Dies Aged 85

Lee ‘Scratch’ Perry, who was a Jamaican record producer and singer noted for his innovative studio techniques and production style has reportedly died at the age of 85.

Perry died on August 29, 2021, at a hospital in Lucea, Jamaica from an unidentified illness.

Andrew Holness, the Prime Minister of Jamaica, tweeted, “My deep condolence to the family, friends and fans of the legendary record producer and singer, Rainford Hugh Perry OD, affectionately known as “Lee Scratch” Perry. He has worked with and produced for various artists, including Bob Marley and the Wailers, the Congos, Adrian, Sherwood, the Bestie Boys and many others. Undoubtedly, Lee Scratch Perry will always be remembered for his sterling contribution to the music fraternity”.

Perry resided in Switzerland with his wife Mireille and their two children. He had four other children by the names of Cleopatra Perry, Marsha Perry, Omar Perry and Marvin (Sean) Perry in various parts of the world
