The black American flag first appeared during the American Civil War of 1861-1865. Confederate military forces flew the black flag, to signify the white flag of surrender in the other direction. The black flag signified the unit would neither give up nor give in and hostile fighters were killed.

The Black American Flage was also used during the Million Man March led by Louis Farrakhan in 1995. The Million Man March was a rally aimed at promoting unity and family values in Africa. They believe that there were between 400,000 and 1.1 million marchers engaged. This participation was one of American history’s largest assemblies. Most black American flags are either entirely black with no other distinguishable feature or in black and white, with black replacing the red stripes and blue square.

Is the Black American Flag Disrespectful?
Changing the colors of the US flag is a violation of the Laws of the country. The first respondent support is OK, however, the color change or flag design is a breach. According to U.S. Code Section 700 states, “The flag of the United States shall be thirteen horizontal stripes, alternate red and white; and the union of the flag shall be fifty stars, white in a blue field.”
