Real name Charles Thomas Close, Chuck Close was an American painter, artist, and photographer. He was known for his large-scale Photorealist portraits. Close also created photo portraits using a very large format camera.

Chuck Close died on Thursday, August 19, 2021, at the age of 81. His death was announced by his lawyer, John Silberman.

Chuck Close gained prominence in the 1970s and ’80s with colossal Photorealist portraits of himself, family members and fellow artists. Later in his career, he faced accusations of sexual harassment from women who had modeled for him.
Chuck Close’s cause of death is currently not known but he was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s in 2013 which his doctor said his sexually inappropriate behavior could be attributed to the illness.
