Tokyo will pass on the baton to Paris on Sunday after staging a game that was delayed by COVID-19 and dismayed a skeptical public but nonetheless still delivered its share of the competition among countries.

The closing ceremony which will kick off on August 8, 2021 at 8 pm Tokyo time (7 am ET, 1100GMT), will cap two weeks of Olympics actions that were watched by millions of people around the world but seen in person by just a handful due to the pandemic.

The closing ceremony will air live on NBCOlympics.com and Peacock, with special coverage later in Primetime on NBC.

NBC (United States) and CBC (Canda) will continue their coverage of the Olympics through the end of the events, and concluding with the closing ceremony. The two channels will carry the final ceremony in the games both live and then later in the day with a rebroadcast during the prime time on the east coast.

Tokyo Olympics 2020 Closing Ceremony Start Time

As has been the case for much of the Olympics, the 13-hour time difference between Tokyo and the east coast of the U.S means that most North American viewers are watching the events either late in the right or early in the morning. The closing ceremony for the 2021 Summer games will be held in Prime Tokyo at 8 PM which means Canada and the US will have to watch it early. The ceremony starts at 7 am ET but will be rebroadcast during the time at 7:30 pm ET.

The closing ceremony is due to run from 11:00 am – 1:30 pm GMT. There are 13 medal events due to be held on the Olympics’ final day, including four in boxing and three in track cycling.
