Sound Sultan, a popular Nigerian singer, has died, according to a statement signed by his brother Kayode Fasasi.

Real name Olanrewaju Abdulganiyu Fasasi, Sound Sultan died after a battle with cancer. He passed on at age 44.
“It is with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of Multi-talented veteran singer, rapper, songwriter, Onlanrewaju Fasasi a.k.a Sound Sultan.
“He passed away at the age of 44 following a hard-fought battle with Angioimmunoblastic T-cell Lymphoma.
“He is survived by his wife, 3 children and his siblings. We, his family appreciate the utmost privacy as we come to grips with this tragic loss.”
Sound Sultan, whose music career started in 1991 was noted for hit songs like Jagbajantis, Kokose and Motherland.

Sound Sultan was multitalented. He was a rapper, singer, songwriter, actor, comedian, recording artist and was regarded as one of the pacesetters of modern hip hop music in Nigeria.

Tributes and messages of condolences have started coming in for the late musician Sound Sultan. Nigerian celebrities have turned up on Twitter despite the ban in the country to show love for the musician. Among the celebrities expressing sorrow over Sound Sultan’s death are Aisha Yesufu, Kemi Smallz, J.J Omojuwa and Bizzle Osikoya.
