Bollywood superstar, Aamir Khan, and his producer-director wife, Kiran Rao, have announced in a joint statement that they are separating after 15 years of marriage.

In a statement, the couple described their 15 years of marriage as beautiful filled with a lifetime of experiences, joy and laughter.
Apart from raising their son Azad together, the couple plan to collaborate on films, their co-owned nonprofit Paani Foundation they co-founded in 2016 to fight against drought in the western state of Maharashtra.
“We began a planned separation some time ago, and now feel comfortable to formalise this arrangement, of living separately yet sharing our lives the way an extended family does,” the statement said.
“Now we would like to begin a new chapter in our lives — no longer as husband and wife, but as co-parents and family for each other.”

“In these 15 beautiful years together we have shared a lifetime of experiences, joy and laughter,” the statement added.
Aamir Khan, 56, and Kiran Rao, 47, first met on the set of Lagaan, an Oscar-nominated 2001 film and tied the knot in 2005.
Khan had two children from his previous marriage with Reena Dutta.
