Female Nigerian singer, Simi, has been named the songwriter at the ongoing 14th edition of Headies Awards held at La Campagne Tropicana Beach Resort in Ibeju-Lekki.

This category requires no votes as the judges of the event, are required to decide on who is best fit for the award taking into consideration, the composition, arrangement and rendition.

Simi bypassed her colleagues in the category including Fireboy, Burna Boy, Omah Lay, Wurld, and her husband, Adekunle Gold to win the category with her song, Duduke.

Duduke is a song released in April 2016 by Simi. It is a mid-tempo pop record blend Afrobeats vibe and take on RnB. Duduke, according to Simi means heart or drum, and in the song, she uses a beat to describe the heartbeat of her unborn child whom she refers to as her guardian angel.

The song received positive reviews from music critic and listeners. An editor for Naijaloaded gave ‘Duduke’ an 8 out of 10 ratings.
