Amazon former Chief Executive Officer, Jeff Bezos has reclaimed his title of world’s richest person, ending Elon Musk’s roughly six-week reign atop the list.

Jeff Bezos did not take long to reclaim his position he lost to Elon Musk about a month and two weeks ago. Elon Musk unfortunately lost about $4.5 billion in shares just few days after being announced the world’s richest person after Tesla shares fell 2.4%.

According to the Bloomberg Billionaires Index ranking, Jeff Bezos’ net worth also fell as the broader stock market lost a bit of ground but not extreme. He lost about $372 million which is enough for him to reclaim his title. The index currently says Bezos is worth $1 billion over Elon Musk. The current richest person on earth has $191 billion compared to Musk’s $190 billion while, Bill Gates remains at the world’s third-richest person with $137 billion of worth.
The Amazon CEO’s stake in the company increased by $75 billion in 2020, to $173.3 billion, given the huge increase in sales driven by the Covid-19 pandemic. Earlier this month, he announced that he’s stepping down from his CEO role and will transition to the role of executive chair later this year.
