Pentatonix is a five-member American acapella group from Arlington, Texas known for their works in the world of pop music and covers of Christmas songs.

Pentatonix was formed in 2011. The group won the third season of NBC’s The Sing-Off, receiving $200,000 and a recording contract with Sony Music.

Pentatonix initially began as a trio with Kirstin Maldonado, Mitchell Grassi, and Scott Hoying who were schoolmates at Martin High School in Arlington, Texas.
For a local radio show competition which they lost, they arranged and submitted a trio version of “Telephone,” by Lady Gaga featuring Beyoncé.

After being dropped by Sony’s Epic Records, the group formed its YouTube channel enabling them to share their works with the public.
Their YouTube channel currently has over 18 million subscribers and 4 billion views. The group’s video tribute to Daft Punk had received over 341 million views.
