David Lee Roth was born on October 10, 1954, in Bloomington, Indiana to parents, Nathan Lee and Sibyl Roth. Roth and his two sisters mainly grew up in New Castle, and also had a short stay in Swampscott, Massachusetts.
They moved to Pasadena in California when David was still a teenager. He schooled at The Webb Schools in Claremont. He is also a graduate of John Muir High School and Pasadena City College, Pasadena.

He began as a solo singer when he was a teenager. His first music group, Red Ball Jets, was mainly hard rock and slightly R&B.
David Lee Roth Van Halen
David met Alexander and Edward Van Halen at Pasadena City College. The Van Halen brothers had started a rock band called Mammoth, with Mark Stone as bassist, Alex as drummer and Eddie as lead guitarist and vocalist. David joined them as lead singer in 1974 and with his influence, the band’s name was changed from Mammoth to Van Halen. They released their first eponymous album in 1978 and followed up with a 3 months tour. David Roth was actively involved in decision-making at Van Halen, and greatly influenced the success of the band with his harmonious vocals and high energy stage performances. In 1984, they topped the Billboard pop chart with their premier LP, MCMXXCIV.
A few years down the line, David and Eddie began to have artistically conflicting choices. While David wanted a drift towards a more party-hearty disco style, Eddie was keen on a more profound and rich piece.
He released his EP solo in 1985 and officially called it quits with the band later that same year. He made a brief comeback in 1996, during which they recorded Can’t Get This Stuff No More as well as Me Wise Magic , with both songs featuring in the album Best of – Volume I. Later in the year, Gary Cherone replaced David Roth as lead vocalist for Van Halen. However, rumours of another failed reunion attempt surfaced in 2001.
In February 2007, David made an official comeback to Van Halen. In March 2007, his much-anticipated tour with the band was rescheduled due to Eddie’s health condition. Additionally, David, Eddie and Alex failed to attend Van Halen‘s induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, except for Sammy Hagar and Michael Anthony. His tour with Van Halen happened as planned in September 2007 and garnered huge sums of money for the band. In 2012, they embarked on a tour following the release of their new album titled A Different Kind of Truth with David Roth as lead vocalist. They made a live album released in March 2015 dubbed Tokyo Dome Live in Concert, consisting of live tour recordings of the album, A Different Kind of Truth. Roth remained with Van Halen till its disbandment in November 2020, following Eddie’s tragic passing earlier in October.

He has produced a number of great solo releases including Eat ‘Em and Smile(1986), Skyscraper(1988), A Little Ain’t Enough(1991), and DLR Band(1997).
