Herald Sun sports journalist and Fox Footy TV presenter Sam Landsberger has tragically died in a car accident at the age of 35.

The accident occurred at the intersection of Bridge Road and Church Street in Richmond early on Tuesday, August 20, 2024.
Landsberger, who dedicated over 14 years to covering football for News Corp in Melbourne, was a well-recognized figure in the football community.
His contributions to the sport were not only celebrated through his writing but also through his recent work on television for Fox Footy.
Landsberger earned numerous accolades throughout his career, including the Australian Football Media Association’s Clinton Grybas Rising Star Award in 2013 and the Walkley Award for student journalist of the year in 2014.
Most recently, he was honored with the Australian Football Media Association’s award for best print news reporter in 2023.

AFL CEO Andrew Dillon expressed his condolences, highlighting Landsberger’s dedication and impact on the football community. “Sam has been taken from his family and friends in a terrible tragedy today,” Dillon said.
“He was respected for both his tenacity and his incredible passion for the game. His death has had a devastating impact on those who worked with him at News and Foxtel, and his many friends across the football and media industries.”
Herald Sun editor Sam Weir described Landsberger’s death as a “devastating loss.” Weir praised Landsberger’s energy, talent, and the bright future he had ahead of him.
“Sam was well-loved and well-respected,” Weir noted. “He excelled in everything he did, from breaking big stories to expert analysis on Fox Footy.”
