Dressed in a leather jacket and gloves, Cruise surprised the audience as he descended into the stadium while American musician H.E.R. played guitar.
As part of the handover to Los Angeles, the host city for the 2028 Olympics, Cruise was featured in a pre-recorded film that followed his journey through Paris and across the Atlantic to the iconic Hollywood sign, where he unfurled the Olympic colors.
The Paris closing ceremony served as a formal farewell to the Games, which were widely praised as “sensational” by Thomas Bach, president of the International Olympic Committee.

In his closing speech, Bach lauded the athletes for their outstanding performances and the spirit of unity they displayed, saying they showed “what greatness we humans are capable of” and inspired billions around the world. He also highlighted the peaceful coexistence of the athletes in the Olympic Village, which he described as a “culture of peace.”
Cruise’s daring stunt was part of a larger celebration that included H.E.R. performing the U.S. national anthem and jamming on an electric guitar.
Cruise then took the Olympic flag from American gymnast Simone Biles before thrilling the audience by zipping away on a motorbike.
The handover to Los Angeles continued with a pre-recorded clip soundtracked by the Red Hot Chili Peppers, who later performed live on a Los Angeles beach, followed by performances from Billie Eilish, Snoop Dogg, and Dr. Dre.
