Ghanaian Afrobeats artist Camidoh has issued a formal apology for a controversial comparison he made about smoking in a recent interview.

On August 2, 2024, Camidoh compared smoking to the exposure to smoke that kenkey sellers face while cooking during an interview with Joy Prime.
Although he acknowledged smoking’s harmful effects on the lungs, he suggested that other activities, like cooking kenkey, also involve smoke exposure.
The analogy sparked significant backlash on social media, leading Camidoh to address the issue on X (formerly Twitter) on August 9, 2024. He admitted that his analogy was poorly chosen and expressed regret for his statement.

“Hey y’all. I just want to acknowledge that I made an analogy about smoking in a recent interview, and, in hindsight, I realize it was a poor choice and genuinely quite dumb. I’m sincerely sorry for that, and I want to formally retract that statement, along with anything I might have said in its defence. Love, Midoh.”
The artist, who recently released the track “Nothing Lasts Forever,” revealed in June that the song was inspired by a personal heartbreak. He admitted that the emotional pain led him to smoking as a coping mechanism.
