During a press briefing on August 8, 2024, Special Prosecutor Kissi Agyebeng stated that there was no evidence of corruption involving Mahama, who was identified as “Government Official One” in the investigation, or his brother, who was labeled as Intermediary 5.

Agyebeng emphasized that the Airbus deal, which attracted global attention, did not involve corruption by Mahama or his brother.

He described Mahama’s intentions in acquiring the aircraft as good, and noted that the investigation found no proof of bribery or improper conduct related to the deal.

“The OSP found no evidence that former President Mahama was involved or played any role in the procurement and maintenance of the agency relationship between Airbus and its associates. The direct communications and meetings between former President Mahama and Airbus officials were actuated by good intentions,” Agyebeng said.

The Special Prosecutor also clarified that while Airbus officials involved in the transaction committed crimes, there was no evidence that they transferred bribes to Mahama or his brother.

He acknowledged, however, that the nature of the deal might have raised suspicions and suggested that such commercial dealings should be avoided by high-ranking officials.

“The OSP found no evidence that suggests that the involvement of Foster as an intermediary for Airbus or the direct communications between former President Mahama and Airbus officials amounted to any corruption-related offense,” Agyebeng added.
