Kwabena Owusu Aduomi, a former independent parliamentary candidate, has decided to rejoin the New Patriotic Party (NPP) following a reconciliation with the party’s Ashanti Regional Council of Elders on Monday, August 5, 2024.

Owusu Aduomi had previously lost his bid to win the Ejisu by-election to private legal practitioner Francis Kwabena Boateng on Tuesday, April 30. The by-election was held due to the unfortunate passing of the former MP, John Kumah.
Owusu Aduomi, a three-time NPP Member of Parliament for the Ejisu constituency, chose to run as an independent candidate in the by-election.
His decision was driven by concerns over the integrity and fairness of the NPP’s delegates’ list, which he believed the party had failed to address adequately.
This move led to accusations from some NPP members, who felt betrayed and speculated that he had defected to the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC).

In a statement issued by the Ashanti Regional Council of Elders on Tuesday, August 6, Aduomi pledged to bring his supporters back to the party.
“Engineer Owusu Aduomi respectfully responded to overtures made by the Council of Elders and honoured an invitation by the Council aimed at getting him back into the fold, in a meeting characterised by frank and open discussions of issues that have happened in the past.
“Owusu Aduomi announced to the delight of the members of the Council of Elders that he had put everything behind him and went on to announce his return to the party unconditionally. He emphasised that his umbilical cord is planted in NPP and that the NPP runs through the veins of his blood. Furthermore, Engineer Owusu Aduomi pledged to talk to his supporters and bring them back to the party,” a statement from the Council of Elders indicated.
Owusu Aduomi’s return is expected to strengthen the NPP’s position in the Ejisu constituency as the party prepares for future elections.
