Luana Alonso, a 20-year-old Paraguayan swimmer, has been expelled from the Olympic Village in Paris after causing a stir with her behavior during the 2024 Games.

The head of the Paraguayan Olympic Committee, Larissa Schaerer, cited Alonso’s “inappropriate atmosphere” as the reason for her removal. Alonso, who failed to advance to the semifinals of the women’s 100m butterfly, initially remained in the Olympic Village after her elimination.
However, her presence soon became a source of controversy, with reports indicating that she wore revealing outfits that violated the team’s dress code and spent more time exploring Paris, including a trip to Disneyland, rather than supporting her fellow Paraguayan athletes.

“Her presence is creating an inappropriate atmosphere within Team Paraguay,” Schaerer stated. “We thank her for proceeding as instructed, as it was of her own free will that she did not spend the night in the Athletes’ Village.”
Despite being allowed to stay and watch the remainder of the events, Alonso was eventually asked to leave the Olympic Village and move to a hotel. She complied with the request without incident.
Alonso, who boasts over 500,000 followers on Instagram, took to the platform to address the situation, denying that she was “removed or expelled from anywhere” and asking for false information to stop spreading.
The Olympic Village is designed to foster a sense of community among athletes, providing them with a space to eat, socialize, and train together.
Alonso’s alleged disregard for the team’s rules and her focus on personal activities rather than supporting her teammates have been seen as a breach of this spirit.
