Akili McDowell, the actor celebrated for his role in the television series “David Makes Man,” has been charged with murder in connection with a fatal shooting in Houston.

Authorities have confirmed that McDowell, 21, was arrested and charged last week for the July 20 shooting death of Cesar Peralta, 20, in the parking lot of a Houston apartment complex.
The Harris County sheriff’s office reported that McDowell remains in jail on a $400,000 bond. According to court records, his attorney has not yet responded to requests for comment on the case.
Jonell Whitt, McDowell’s manager, expressed her distress over the incident. “This is an unfortunate situation, and I am in prayer for Akili and those impacted by this tragedy,” she said, refraining from further comments.

The sheriff’s office detailed the events of July 20, when deputies responded to a call about a shooting at the apartment complex. Upon arrival, they found an unresponsive Cesar Peralta with gunshot wounds. Witnesses recounted seeing Peralta involved in a physical altercation with another man, who fled the scene on foot after the shooting.
