After his release from prison for defacing naira notes, Lagos socialite Idris Okuneye, better known as Bobrisky, has issued a warning to Nigerians about the risks of spraying money at events.

During a recent interview with Goldmyne Vibes, Bobrisky advised against the practice, highlighting that even non-violent acts can lead to imprisonment.

“Don’t spray money, or you might end up serving time in Kirikiri Prison. It’s not only severe crimes that can get you into trouble; even seemingly minor actions can have serious consequences. I’m focusing on the friends who supported me and am grateful for their help,” he stated.

Bobrisky was released on August 5, 2024, after spending four months in prison. He had been arrested on April 4, 2024, following reports that he was showing off new naira notes at a film premiere on March 24, 2024.

The EFCC confirmed his arrest via Instagram, and Bobrisky was charged with naira abuse. He admitted guilt and was sentenced to six months in prison without the option of a fine by Justice A.O. Awogboro on April 12, 2024.

Following the sentence, Bobrisky’s lawyer, Bimbo Kusanu, appealed the decision, arguing that the sentence was excessively harsh given Bobrisky’s lack of a prior criminal record and requesting a reduction to a fine of ₦50,000 per count, citing provisions of the Administration of Criminal Justice Act.
