Nigerian rapper Vector has openly accused certain hip-hop-affiliated executives of exploiting their artists for contractual greed.

The rapper made these bold claims in a recent post on X, where he addressed ongoing commentaries about the state of Hip-Hop in Nigeria.

Vector, known for his lyrical prowess and candid opinions, criticized the ignorance he perceives within the genre, stating that Hip-Hop has “the most vocal ignorants who know nothing about the art style of different artists they speak about.” His frustration with the genre’s discourse prompted him to break his silence and share his thoughts on the industry’s inner workings.

Reflecting on his own experiences, Vector recalled how he has supported other artists in the past, despite any personal differences. He noted that these same artists would likely not reciprocate if the roles were reversed. This observation led him to highlight the pervasive issue of greed among some hip-hop executives.

“Haven’t responded to Hiphop commentaries in a long minute because the genre has the most vocal ignorants who know nothing about the art style of different artists they speak about. That said, Hiphop is a genre that stands with some HARD truth. Hiphop doesn’t need fakes who use money and affluence to fight lyrical battles… I have had beefs with rappers but never thought to stop their progress; I have put some on platforms that they would never put me on for reasons best known to them if roles were reversed (and trust me, the roles have been reversed many times) but hey, I think they’re scared of me, is my guess.”

Vector also directly accused certain executives of betraying their artists’ interests for financial gain. He claimed that some of these executives, who are also rappers, help labels buy artists’ catalogues for cheap, exploiting the conversion of foreign currency to Naira for significant profit.

“There are so many Hiphop affiliated execs (rappers) who sell out their people in contractual greed; one of them you praise on here helps labels buy artists’ catalogues for cheap simply because if you convert the money to Naira, it’s plenty. Many of you think some of these weak men are hard rappers simply because they tell you on tracks… lol what then differs them from politicians? The Tracks? Lol…”
